loop and stylus fastenings

Fastenings in which folded loops made from strips of metal, textile, ribbon, parchment or tanned skin are fastened to the fore-edges of both boards, and which line up when the books are closed and can be secured with a stylus, often a thin pencil to be used for writing notes.
