tying-up boards

Pairs of rectangular boards, one of which is placed on each side of a book that has just been covered to allow cord to hold the covering material tightly down on each side of raised bands and across the caps as it dries (and shrinks) without marking the covering material on the sides of the binding. This can be done either by winding the cord backwards and forwards across the spine or wrapping it around the whole book.
