tying-up cords
Note (en)
Note
Thin tightly-twisted cords used to hold a covering skin to the spine of a book, especially on each side of raised bands, as the paste used to adhere it to the spine of the bookblock dried. It is often possible to see a clear impression of the twist of the cord in the covering material.
