pastedown ripples (from textblock)

The ridges created in pastedowns when boards or covers are closed and pressed onto pasted endleaves over textblocks with pronounced distortions created by printing. The hollows in the distorted textblocks do not press the pastedowns evenly onto the boards or covers and allow them to remain as raised ridges.
